This is easily my most favorite piece of jewelry I own, other than my engagement ring.
This is my Abuelita's necklace from when she was young that she recently gave to me. It is gold with a light blue diamond in the center, surrounded by mini clear diamonds. It is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm going to wear it on my wedding day.
To understand me you have to know my Abuelita. She was constantly around during my childhood, I don't have a single memory without her in it. She is an immensely beautiful and strong woman from the Brazilian Amazon with so much class and style. To her, I'm "mi niña, hijita preciosa," and to me, she's "mi muñeca linda, mi 'Li.'"
I couldn't think of a better piece of jewelry to wear than one she personally gave me, one that hangs so close to my heart.
I started thinking about this today as I started getting accessories together to take with me to Southern California for the wedding. I still need to find a small jewelry box to store this beautiful piece in, so right now it is sitting next to my bed waiting to be transported.
I'm not complaining in the slightest; I get to admire a beautiful jewel when I get up in the morning and when I go to bed.
These are the moments I will cherish and the moments I definitely love about planning this wedding. The moments when I get to reflect on the love surrounding Jose and I, and how we have the insane privilege to incorporate that love in our wedding day, and future marriage, in little and big ways.
This piece of jewelry is my little way of incorporating my Abuelita into my wedding day; one of the most important people in my life playing a huge part in one of the most important days of my life.
Now I have my "something old/borrowed" and I couldn't be more excited to wear it for the first time at 10:00am on October 21st. Now to remember what the other things are; anyone, feel free to chime in and remind me, I only have 2 weeks left to fill in the blanks!
